We're off! The Friday shirt colors for the next 4 months (hopefully 5) will be black, gold, and occasionally white. Hypocycloids should be prominently displayed.
Hines got his new deal, keeping both him and me happy. Although, at 4 years, it's hard to believe he'll be retired by the end of it.
The Raiders opened at the Pats and the Pats looked OK. Watching Jordan run more than a few times for 7 yards up the middle, made me hopeful that they can be beaten this year. I'm still baffled that the Pats continue to use 4 and 5 WR formations in long yardage situations. That never works for anyone else.
And after a crappy preseason, the Steelers lit up the Titans. The offense that didn't score any TD's in the preseason scored on its first 6 possessions, until Cowher showed mercy and pulled Fast Willy at the end of the 3rd quarter. It's nice when you're 3rd string RB can go out and pick up 160+ yards as a starter. Of course, many predict the Titans to be one of the worst teams in the league this year, so no need to get too excited. The defense looked weak, but lucky, winning on turnovers and dropped passes rather than by preventing first downs.
Looking around the rest of the league, I think I'm going to have a tough time figuring out what was real and what was noise in fantasy. But then, that's what makes the game interesting/challenging.

Anna and I got a new TV this year, and we finally gave in and got cable --- we get only the basic networks (NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, PBS, maybe a couple more), but we get high-definition when it's broadcast. Watching the Pats opener in wide-screen high-definition was seriously sweet.
Yeah, the Pats didn't look *that* good against Oakland. On the other hand, the Pats specialty is looking only a tiny bit better than whoever they're playing againts.
I find Miami beating the stuffing out of Denver pretty surprising.

I was suprised by the Miami, Dallas, and SF wins. In fact, I'm still baffled that a team (SF) can put up 28 points with 40 total yards of rushing.

Perhaps next year the finance committee will approve DirectTV and Tivo.
HD has its downsides too. Like when you're watching the series premiere of "The War At Home", because it's on between "Simpsons" and "Family Guy", and you suddently realize, "Not only is this one of the most awful, lame, offensive, offensively unfunny shows I have ever seen, but I'm seeing it in super-clear widescreen!"

Week 1
Surely, you mean burgandy, gold, and white no? :) (Sounds like the 'skins win was ugly though, but at least it's a win.)My other favorite team ("whoever is playing the Cowboys this week") is also winning at the moment, which is always pleasing. (Have I mentioned what a hilarious first name "Flozell" is for a football player, by the way?)
I was glad to see that the Saints won today and your guys. I see FOX has a new gratutious graphic, and there are a some new football commercials. The Visa one with Tom Brady & the Patriots is kind of funny (not as good as the MC one with the Hogettes, but still).

Re: Week 1
I'm a fan of the Patriots-draft-a-diet-pepsi-machine ad. It's utterly stupid, but it tickles me. I thought of you (andSeptember 11 2005, 17:54:50 UTC 6 years ago

Well, it's better than the Jerry Jones one, but that's a low bar.September 12 2005, 07:02:40 UTC 6 years ago
